DATA PROVENANCE

A 2D tactical model of the Sol system blending verified real-world astronomy with the standing geography of The Expanse, presented in one combined dossier per body. This build is a pre-series / pre-books "standing survey": it carries only durable facts — worlds, populations, governance, industry — and deliberately omits story events, named protagonists and later developments.

Real science

NASA NSSDC Planetary Fact Sheet (Dr. D. R. Williams); NASA Science planetary & moon pages; Britannica and current planetary-science literature. Orbital distances are compressed for readability (not to scale); motion uses a simplified coplanar, circular model, so the Measure tool gives a simulated instantaneous range, not a live ephemeris.

The Expanse

Stations, factions, populations and governance follow the novels/series by James S. A. Corey (via The Expanse Wiki). Vesta reflects a custom chronicle brief (Martian protectorate). Geographic note: the real 433 Eros is a near-Earth asteroid; the setting places "Eros" in the Belt, and this map follows the setting.

Navigation model

The Course Plotter uses real planetary positions extrapolated to the chosen date (coplanar, circular orbits; asteroid and moon phases are approximate). Flight physics follow The Expanse's own "wrong" numbers — the books' dramatic, deliberately over-scaled accelerations and travel times, not real-world rocketry. Brachistochrone (flip-and-burn) timing, fuel via the rocket equation, and gravity-assist figures are first-order approximations for storytelling, not mission planning.
